Advice is hard to give and get as I get older. Relationships break down in ways you wouldn’t wish upon your worst enemy, miracles occur in ways science can’t explain, life shifts and turns… it surprises you and infuriates you and delights you. You have more control than you think and also somehow none.

I think one of my main failures was ‘applying’ with the wrong companies in my romantic life. I am now vetting for leadership qualities, ambition, chemistry and values.

The reality is that one way or another, life will hand us situations we do not want to be in. We do not get to ‘consent’ to the events that arise. But we do get to choose how we respond, how we build our families and character.

‘Right’ is more of a behavior or process than a static position. We can’t ever really stop engaging with these practices and questions. Even the most benign rapidly become stale, disfigured and toxic if left unattended.
